Our post-war bathroom needs redoing. What is actually involved?

A strip-out back to frame or slab, new falls, a compliant membrane, then tile, grout and silicone. Post-war bathrooms around Newmarket almost never have a membrane behind the tile, so a renovation is really a waterproofing job with a tiled finish over it.

Can you tile a whole floor through an extended cottage?

Yes, and the trick is the setout. An extended cottage has an original section and a newer one that rarely line up, so the floor has to be set out from the sightlines that matter — usually the hallway run — rather than from any one wall. We dry-set and show you before fixing.

We are on the Enoggera Creek flats. Does that change anything for ground-floor work?

It can. Ground-floor and under-house wet areas down on the flats need the substrate checked for moisture before tiling, and external landings need falls that actually shed water away from the building. It is not a reason to avoid the work — just a reason not to skip the checks.
