Stone and rock wall cladding in Brisbane
Dry-stack stone and rock wall cladding, inside and out — feature walls, fireplace surrounds, retaining faces and entry statements. Added to the business on the back of demand for it, and now a regular part of the work.
A different set of hands to tiling
Stone cladding is closer to stonework than to tiling. The pieces are not uniform, so the wall gets read and laid rather than set out on a grid — courses staggered, joints broken, pieces turned and selected so the face has depth instead of repeating.
The corners are where the skill shows. A returned corner in dry-stack has to look like stone that wraps the wall, not two faces butted together, and that means corner pieces cut and matched to the courses on both sides.
Inside and out
Inside it is fireplace surrounds, entry walls and living-room features, usually paired with a floor we are already laying. Outside it is house facades, pier and column cladding, retaining and boundary faces, and pool-side walls — the gallery has stone walls both alongside pool surrounds and standing on their own.
Substrate and fixing
A rock wall is heavy, and the wall behind it has to be able to hold it. Substrate, fixing system and any external waterproofing get sorted before the first piece goes on, particularly on external faces and anywhere the cladding meets the ground.

Questions
Stone and rock wall cladding — questions.
What is dry-stack stone cladding?
Stone laid so the faces sit tight against each other with no visible mortar joint, giving a stacked-stone look rather than a grouted one. It is fixed and bedded like any cladding, but the joints are worked so the finished wall reads as stone rather than tile.
Can stone cladding go on any wall?
Not automatically. It is heavy, so the substrate and the fixing system have to suit both the weight and the exposure. That gets checked before anything is quoted, and on external walls the waterproofing behind it matters as much as the stone.
Do you do outdoor stone as well as indoor?
Both. House facades, piers, retaining faces and pool-side walls outside; fireplace surrounds, entry walls and living features inside.
Can you match stone to a floor tile we have chosen?
Usually. Most stone-look ranges are made to sit with a porcelain floor, and since we are often laying both we can look at them together before either is ordered.
